AEJMC Blog Launches-ICD Members Blog Today!
Dear Fellow ICD members: I seek your participation in the AEJMC blog. Mich Sineath, Public Relations, AEJMC/ASJMC has been instrumental in creating the new (and cool) AEJMC website. The blog interface is a superb new addition. An interesting feature here is that the blogs are low-tech. Simple interface. You may cut-and-past websites, and other information directly. Posting blog entries and other information relating to international and global journalism will greatly benefit our fellow ICD members from Asia, Africa, Middle East, and Latin America.

Once you log into the AEJMC website (http://www.aejmc.org), on your right side you will notice the "Quick Links" tab. Here you will see the "Blog" tab at the bottom. Once you click here, you will go to "Topics". Click our division name - International Communication (http://aejmc.org/talk/?cat=19) and you will be on the blog.

Special Issue of American Journal of Media Psychology on "Quantifying the Processes Involved in International Public Diplomacy" Call for Submissions

There was a time when much of international public diplomacy took place among diplomats and opinion leaders of various countries. Today, international public diplomacy entails explicit and implicit messages sent by a government in one country to members of a general public in another country for the purpose of shaping their attitudes toward some aspect of the sending country. What processes can best describe attitude formation and/or attitude change as it relates to international public diplomacy in a global media environment? What role, if any, do the international media networks (news and entertainment, traditional and Web-based) play in this context? Researchers with interests in such areas as attitude formation and change, media psychology, social psychology, cross-cultural communication, political communication, public opinion, international communication, news exposure, international relations, media effects and related topics are invited to submit papers to the American Journal of Media Psychology for a special issue that focuses on explaining attitude formation and attitude change as related to international public diplomacy within a global media environment. Submissions sought are ones that tackle this topic by either focusing exclusively on applying psychology and/or communication theories to this topic area, and/or conducting comprehensive literature reviews of studies that have findings that are applicable to this topic area, and/or carrying out theory-driven empirical investigations that focus on this topic. The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2007. For more instructions on submitting a manuscript, please visit http://www.marquettejournals.org/mediapsychology.html. Questions about this call for manuscripts can be directed to Dr. Michael Elasmar, Editor, American Journal of Media Psychology at elasmar@bu.edu.

February 23-24, 2007

The AEJMC Midwinter Conference is an annual forum for the presentation of research in areas relevant to the nine AEJMC divisions sponsoring the conference. The conference follows a rather informal structure that allows for presentations and extended discussions in a relaxed setting. In 2007, ten AEJMC divisions and interest groups are sponsoring this year’s conference, scheduled for Feb. 23-24, 2007 (Friday & Saturday), at the Reynolds School of Journalism in Reno. The location offers participants many winter diversions outside the conference activities, from gaming and nightlife to world-class ski resorts at nearby Lake Tahoe.

Questions about paper proposal submissions to specific divisions and interest groups can be directed to the appropriate contacts below. General questions about the conference can be sent to Jennifer Greer, Conference Site Host (jdgreer@unr.edu) and Jim Benjamin, Communication Technology Division Midwinter Chair (jbenjam@ut.net.utoledo.edu).

The abstracts should give a clear sense of the scope of the research and the method of inquiry used. Conclusions should be highlighted for works that have been completed by the submission deadline. Do not send full research papers for consideration. However, authors of proposals accepted for presentation at the conference must submit complete research papers, not exceeding 30 pages, to their discussant two weeks prior to the conference.

The Congress will be run in conjunction with the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre’s (AMIC) 16th annual conference. The WJEC is seeking academic papers relating to any aspect of journalism or mass communication/journalism education for presentation at the conference. World Journalism Education Congress

Journalism education association leaders from around the globe met in San Francisco to discuss and firm up final plans for the World Journalism Education Congress (WJEC), which will be held in Singapore June 25-28, 2007.

The WJEC, supported by 23 journalism education organizations worldwide*, will be the first international conference focused on bringing together leaders of journalism education organizations and/or journalism educators worldwide to discuss the current state of journalism education on a global scale and how to improve it.

The Congress will hold a wide variety of research and professional development sessions and will feature special meetings and interactive workshops for all journalism education administrators, journal editors and teachers attending the conference. And through a special program, all conference attendees will be given the opportunity to meet in themed groups to discuss their special concerns.

As stated in the WJEC paper call, the deadline for papers is Jan. 7, 2007. The Congress is designed to provide all those involved in journalism education a platform to discuss their common concerns and an opportunity to help build a foundation to continue improving journalism education worldwide.

The Congress represents AEJMC’s International Task Force’s first major attempt to help internationalize AEJMC. Former AEJMC president Joe Foote created this task force, consisting of international communication division members, to help get this conference and other ITF initiatives off the ground. Ever since the task force proposed the idea of the Congress three years ago, it has been working hard to make it a reality. This effort took off last year when the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC), a non-profit Asian media organization, offered to host this event at its home base in Singapore. The Congress will run in conjunction with AMIC’s 16th annual conference (AMIC, www.amic.org.sg, is issuing a separate call for papers.)

Check here for more WJEC details, click on http://www.amic-web.org/wjec/ <http://www.amic-web.org/wjec/> . And if you would like to volunteer for a WJEC committee or have any questions, please contact Robyn S. Goodman at fgoodman@alfred.edu .

*WJEC supporters include: African Council on Communication Education (ACCE), Arab-U.S. Association for Communication Educators, Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC), Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), Association for Journalism Education (U.K.), Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC), Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Studies on Communication (Intercom, Brazil), Broadcast Education Association (BEA), China Association of Journalism and Communication Education, Chinese Communication Association (CCA), European Journalism Training Association (EJTA), Global Network for Professional Education in Journalism and Media (JourNet), Israel Communication Association, Journalism Education Association (Australia, New Zealand), Korean Society for Journalism and Communication Studies, Latin American Association of Communication Researchers (ALAIC) , Latin American Federation of Social Communication University Programs (FELAFACS), Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE), Russian Association for Education in Journalism, Russian Association for Film & Media Education, Saudi Association for Media & Communication, and South African Communication Association.
